The following message was released by Judge Advocate General of the Navy Vice Adm. Nanette M. DeRenzi, Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Navy Rear Adm. James W. Crawford, III, and Deputy Judge Advocate General for Reserve Affairs and Operations Rear Adm. Janet R. Donovan.

As the holiday season approaches and we near the close of another year, we’d like to take a moment to thank you for all you do for the JAG Corps, the Navy, and our nation. Together, we confronted challenges to the Navy that placed considerable demands on our community. we endured the difficulty and uncertainty of a government shutdown, and we shared in the personal joys and, at times, the struggles of our shipmates. We are so thankful for and proud of your extraordinary work, your professionalism, and the way that you support one another.

As you spend time with your friends and family and reflect on your many blessings, please be mindful of those members of our community standing duty around the world, deployed in support of overseas contingency operations and at sea.

Each year we remind you to be safe during the holidays. and it’s not lost on us that you receive similar messages throughout the year. There’s a reason for that – you are our extended family, and your well-being and safety are important to us. So, please make safety a priority. If you’ re driving, plan ahead and make sure traffic, weather, and general safety are part of your plans. Get enough rest before you drive and of course don’t drink and drive or text while you drive. Please also keep in mind that the holiday season brings its own stressors and challenges for many. Be alert to issues with your friends and shipmates. By taking the time to care for someone in need, you can make a difference.

As always, thank you for what you do for the Navy, our clients, and each other. Keep up the terrific work, and we hope to see you in the Fleet next year!
