Diane Miller, Region Legal Service Office (RLSO) EURAFSWA (Navy Region Europe, Africa, Southwest Asia) Detachment Rota, received the Junior Civilian of the Year 2018 for Naval Legal Service Command (NLSC) during a local all hands meeting, May 14.

“Diane is a competent professional who shows commitment and dedication in everything she does, whether processing hundreds of the various legal requests our office receives, decorating the offices of our shipmates on their birthdays, or taking the initiative to seek out professional development opportunities,” explained Lt. Cmdr. Dennis Harbin, officer-in-charge of RLSO Detachment Rota.

Miller is in charge of numerous administrative duties. She manages Rota’s home-based business and fundraiser requests, private organization establishment and renewals, general correspondence, receives phone calls and visitors, completes active duty check-out forms, and generates various legal reports.

“She is the gatekeeper and traffic cop,” said Harbin. “She keeps the train running on time and ensures the efficient flow of requests and correspondence in our Building 1 office. She is our team mom.”

Miller’s citation stated, “An administrative professional with direct mission impact, Mrs. Miller’s superb and efficient management of tasks arising from numerous clients and community stakeholders set the standard in NLSC.”

The NLSC is comprised of nine RLSO, four Defense Services Offices, six Victim Legal Counsel Offices, and the Naval Justice School. Being selected as the junior civilian of the year from all those offices was humbling for Miller.

“It feels great to be recognized but I really feel like I just come to work every day and put my best foot forward,” she said. “Every day is a new day to do better than yesterday.”
