Sasebo Career Fair

By Lt. j.g. Allen G. Tolleth, Region Legal Service Office Japan

Lt. Joseph Horton, legal assistance attorney at Region Legal Service Office (RLSO) Japan's Branch Office in Sasebo, Japan, recently joined several professional representatives at the 2015 E.J. King High School Career Day in Sasebo, Japan.

Horton answered dozens of questions several 7th-12th graders had for him concerning the JAG Corps and the legal field. Several students were curious as to what JAGs and lawyers do. "Judge advocates and lawyers are problem solvers, " Horton said.  "When your car is broke you go to a mechanic. When you're injured, you go to the nurse or hospital. When you need help resolving an issue between you and your neighbor, your coworker, your boss, your spouse, your friend, or even a stranger, you go to a lawyer. In the Navy, that lawyer is a judge advocate. That's what JAGs do... we solve problems between people."

More than 150 students, teachers and parents attended. Horton was happy to share his stories and experiences to the several dozen students and parents that made their way to his table. "Everyone left with a business card and better understanding as to how the JAG Corps helps the Navy and its families in both war and peacetime," Horton said.

RLSO Japan provides legal services to commands, service members, and their families within the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans.
