Region Legal Service Office Midwest (RLSO MW) personnel visited Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law for “engaged recruiting” – by attending and participating in a Public Service Panel, along with three other panel members, on Nov. 10, 2016.
The panel included RLSO MW commanding officer Capt. Greg Bart, the Honorable Michael Hood, Mr. Matthew Roberts, and Marine Corps Capt. Tyler Lyons. The panel discussed a wide range of issues involving the cross section of the legal sector and military service. Among the topics discussed included career opportunities in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, educational benefits of the G.I. Bill, and transitioning from the military to the civilian sector.
The panel was organized by the law school’s Veterans Law Association. Judge Hood, a former U.S. Marine Corps judge advocate, is a Municipal Department judge assigned to the Second Municipal District in Cook County, Illinois. Roberts, a former U.S. Army judge advocate, is General Counsel for the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.
Lyons is a recruiter at Recruiting Station Chicago. Seven officers from RLSO MW observed and facilitated the discussion. Numerous Northwestern students attended the event and several were veterans themselves or family members of a service member.
