Lt. Cmdr. Courtney Lewis, who currently is assigned to the Trial Counsel Assistance Program (TCAP) in Washington, D.C., received a letter of appreciation from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) on April 12. The letter was presented by Special Agent L. Matthew Butler, who is the director of the NCIS Training Academy located at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga. During the past year, Lewis visited the facility to lead six training sessions for NCIS agents on sexual assault and domestic violence. Butler applauded Lewis’s “outstanding instructional support” and wished her “fair winds and following seas” as she moves on to her next duty station within the Navy JAG community.
“At TCAP, I regularly field questions on both sexual assault and domestic violence, and I work hard to ensure trial counsel has the tools and resources they need to litigate these complex cases,” said Lewis. “Teaching these courses for NCIS agents in Glynco was another way for me to ensure these cases are handled with the special care and attention they require.”
In August, Lewis will begin her L.L.M. degree in trial advocacy at American University's Washington College of Law. Bravo Zulu, Lt. Cmdr. Lewis!
