Legalman Receives LATINA Style 2017 Distinguished Meritorious Service Award

By Navy JAG Corps Public Affairs

The LATINA Style organization honored Chief Legalman Alicia R. Cooper, Naval Legal Service Command, with the LATINA Style 2017 Distinguished Meritorious Service Award at the 14th Annual National LATINA Symposium in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 15. The award recognizes women from the Department of Defense who have enhanced the role of Latinas in their organizations through their service.

"Chief Cooper is a trusted mentor and leader within the JAG community and chief's mess," said Command Master Chief Jondell Ritchie, Naval Legal Service Command. "She speaks up to voice her opinion or concerns about any given situation, which I rely upon to gain insight and perspective. She sets and maintains high standards and is a great role model for superiors, subordinates and peers alike." "I am extremely proud and humbled to be the recipient of such a prestigious award from LATINA Style," said Cooper.

"Words cannot describe the feeling of pride of being surrounded by other extraordinary Hispanic women from all of our other services on the day that marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. I am grateful to my leadership and mentors for giving me the tools and platform to succeed."

Next week, Cooper departs her current post in Washington, D.C., transferring to Cryptologic Warfare Group SIX in Fort Meade, Md. She will assume the duties of leading chief petty officer at the command's staff judge advocate office.
