Yokosuka Holiday Benefit Concert Assisted Local Residents in Need

By Region Legal Service Office Japan

In December, members of the Yokosuka JAG community -- through their participation in the Japanese Community Legal Association (JCLA) -- continued an annual holiday tradition of supporting Kaifu Gakuen, an assisted living facility and school for disabled Japanese adults in the Yokosuka area.

Funds raised by a benefit concert during a Dec. 9 holiday party hosted by Kaifu Gakuen, which featured the talented members of the local legal community, were provided to the school for their residents.

"Our longstanding relationship and support to Kaifu Gakuen has become a meaningful part of my holiday season. It also is a special aspect of service in Yokosuka that links generations of those who have served here," said Capt. Dom Flatt, commanding officer of RLSO Japan. "I am proud to be part of a legal community that is so generous with their time and talent."

The JCLA is a non-Federal entity that for more than 40 years has been dedicated to fostering relationships between the U.S. Navy legal community and the local Japanese legal, law enforcement, and military communities. Supporting Kaifu Gakuen with yearly contributions is one of their many activities and one of the many ways the Navy JAG Community dedicated to service.

Participation in JCLA demonstrates why the U.S. Navy's partnership with Japan is often described as the most important bilateral relationship in the world. The local JAG community plays a vital role in strengthening a critical international bond.
