Reserve Legalman Recognized with Prestigious Awards

The reserve legalman of the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps are known for their professional excellence and dedication.  It is therefore my pleasure to announce the below individuals who received honors at the Legalman Military Law Training Symposium in Minneapolis on Aug. 10.

Rear Admiral Hugh H. Howell, Jr. Award of Excellence

Legalman 1st Class Lori Fredricks was named co-recipient of the enlisted 2012 Rear Admiral Hugh Howell Award. Fredricks serves as command legalman for Navy Reserve International and Operational Law at Navy Operational Support Center Fort Dix. She also holds collateral duties as Command Fitness Leader and Medical Liaison. Legalman 2nd Class Melissa Crespo was named co-recipient of the enlisted 2012 Rear Admiral Hugh Howell Award. Crespo serves as legal assistance paralegal for Navy Reserve Legal Service Office Mid-Atlantic at Navy Operational Support Center Norfolk. During the award period, Crespo provided mission-critical support by filling an active duty manning short-fall.

Reserve Legalman of the Year

Legalman 1st Class Darlene Carter was named co-recipient of the 2012 Reserve Legalman of the Year Award. Recognized for her leadership skills,  Carter serves as command legalman for Reserve Naval Mobile Construction Battalion TWO THREE (NMCB-23) at Fort Belvoir. As an independent duty legalman, Carter is responsible for providing legal guidance and administrative oversight to the commanding officer and NMCB 23’s 11 detachments. Legalman 1st Class Cedric Jenkins was named co-recipient of the 2012 Reserve Legalman of the Year Award. As leading petty officer for Navy Reserve Legal Service Office Central Detachment 109, at Navy Operational Support Center New Orleans, Jenkins trained and supervised five legalmen ensuring the provision of expert legal assistance and in-depth research to judge advocates within the command. Master Chief Petty Officer Delbert Black Leadership Award Chief Legalman Andrew Fahey received the 2012 Delbert Black Award for his superior leadership fulfilling the dual roles of regional senior enlisted leader for Navy Reserve Mid-Atlantic region and Naval District Washington; and as senior enlisted leader for Navy Reserve Legal Service Office Mid-Atlantic at Navy Operational Support Center Norfolk.
