Diversity Liaison Spotlight:
Meet Lt. Cmdr. Alvir Sadhwani, International Operations Officer at the Defense Institute of International Legal Studies. Sadhwani is the epitome of the world traveler. He was born in Singapore, raised in Los Angeles, and since becoming a judge advocate 8 years ago, has traveled to Hawaii, Japan, Mongolia, Timor Leste, Uganda, and more. While embarked on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6), Sadhwani recalls always having that “I-can’t-believe-I’m-being-paid-for-this” feeling whenever travelling from one ship to another via helicopter. “It was really something else looking out across the vast horizon with nothing in view other than a few U.S. warships!” In his current position at the Defense Institute of International Legal Studies, Sadhwani is responsible for planning and executing congressionally-mandated human rights engagements which are part of assistance packages provided by the U.S. to foreign security forces. Rewarding experiences like these made Sadhwani passionate about being a Diversity Liaison. The Diversity Liaison program offers a platform for Sadhwani and other liaisons to engage with the larger South Asian legal community about the Navy JAG Corps - a career path that offers unique opportunities, but is not traditionally considered.
