Lt. Cmdr. Tony Miani, Deputy Environmental Counsel at U.S. Pacific Fleet, served as a CNO delegate to the inaugural Western Pacific Naval Symposium (WPNS) Environmental Working Group (EWG), in Jakarta, Indonesia June 13-14. The WPNS is a multilateral activity with 20 member nations and 4 observer nations that promotes naval cooperation in the Western Pacific Region. The WPNS EWG provides a forum for delegates to discuss environmental issues with regional implications, discuss challenges in environmental compliance, share relevant research and environmental management plans, facilitate alignment of mitigation policies, and provide environmental recommendations to the WPNS. The inaugural EWG was attended by 15 participating nations. Miani served on a panel and presented the topic of Environmental Compliance and At-Sea Training Activities.
