A Career of Commitment

A dead cat – and tools to dissect it – lay in front of a dispirited Jeanne Kalinoski sometime in the early 1970s. For the previous two years, she had taken college courses in nursing and science, but it wasn’t working out. “Staring at that lifeless cat, I knew I couldn’t do this any longer,” she said. On a whim, she applied for a position as a File Clerk (GS-2) at Naval Hospital Great Lakes in North Chicago, Ill.  Forty two years later, she has officially retired from a career as a Navy civilian employee.

Navy Lawyer Completes Summer Immersion Portion of Program for Emerging Leaders

U.S. Navy Lt. Ryan J. Sylvester, judge advocate assigned to Defense Service Office North, recently completed the Summer Immersion portion of the Center for the Study of Weapons of Mass Destruction’s (WMD Center) Program for Emerging Leaders (PEL) at National Defense University (NDU). He was selected for this program as part of the seventh PEL class of 25 members, which has representatives from across the services and the U.S. Government.

U.S., Foreign Judge Advocates Participate in PANAMAX 2012

For two weeks in August, military forces from the United States and 16 partner nations participated in PANAMAX 2012, a USSOUTHCOM-sponsored exercise that simulated defending the Panama Canal from attacks by a fictional anti-capitalist, extremist organization.  The exercise scenario incorporated a variety of sea, air, land, and cyber attacks.
