The Judge Advocates Association (JAA) and the Judge Advocates Foundation (JAF) announced the 2012 recipients of the JAA Career Armed Services Attorney Award, the Maj. Gen. William K. Suter Distinguished Judicial Service Award, the Chief Justice John Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Chief Judge Robinson O. Everett Distinguished Life Service Award.

These awards will be presented at the JAA/JAF annual awards dinner at the Army and Navy Country Club in Arlington, Va., today. Marine Corps Col. Daniel Daugherty, Chief Judge, Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary, was selected to receive the 2012 Suter Distinguished Judicial Service Award. The JAA presents this award to a trial or appellate judge serving in the Active, Reserve, or Guard Force. Daugherty was selected based upon his military and judicial accomplishments, unquestionable integrity, and service to the community at large.

“Being chosen for this award is personally and professionally gratifying.  I truly love the challenge of being a Military Trial Judge and being recognized among such an outstanding group of professionals caps my career as Marine Judge Advocate,” said Daugherty.

Cmdr. Florencio Yuzon, Deputy Legal Counsel, Office of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was selected to receive the JAA Career Armed Services Attorney Award. This award recognizes outstanding contributions to the Armed Services by career attorneys serving as judge advocates.  Yuzon was selected based upon his demonstrated record of outstanding professional accomplishments, service to the community, service to the legal profession, and development of subordinates.

“I am sincerely grateful for everything our Corps has offered me throughout my career, and I'm truly humbled by this honor.  It is a reflection of not only my personal contributions, but the hard work and dedication of the finest professionals I've worked with, and the sacrifices my family willingly and readily accepted.  This award is as much theirs, as it is mine,” said Yuzon.

Additionally, the 2012 Chief Justice John Marshall Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Dean Blake Morant, Wake Forest University School of Law, and the 2012 Chief Judge Robinson O. Everett Distinguished Life Service Award will be presented to retired Army Maj. Gen. John D. Altenburg, Jr., former Deputy Judge Advocate General of the Army.
