Region Legal Service Office Hawaii is proud to announce the selection of Sarah Courageous, for the prestigious 2012 American Bar Association Legal Assistance for Military Personnel (LAMP) Distinguished Service Award.

The LAMP Award highlights exceptional support of the military legal assistance effort.  Rear Adm. James W. Crawford, III presented Courageous with the award at the RLSO Hawaii in August. Courageous currently serves as a legal assistance attorney assigned to RLSO Hawaii at Joint Base Pearl Harbor–Hickam. She provides legal assistance services primarily to Navy and Air Force personnel, dependents, and retirees. In 2012, Courageous provided support to a community comprised of nearly 78,000 military personnel and dependents, and hundreds of commands. She personally provided legal assistance services for over 1,000 clients and customers and worked extended hours to assist deploying service members and special needs clients.

Notably,  Courageous served as the sole legal assistance attorney for three months during the command's transition of legal assistance services as part of a larger Naval Legal Service Command realignment. In addition to providing exceptional legal assistance, Courageous trained six new judge advocates, a civilian attorney, and three paralegals. Focused on professional development,  Courageous spearheaded a joint legal assistance program, elevating the knowledge and provision of legal assistance across the services in legal assistance offices throughout Hawaii.
